Camas lies on the western bank of the Guadalquivir, directly across the river from Seville. On a map, it forms part of a continuous urban area, but it has a clear shape of its own: a low riverside zone with roads and bridges leading toward the city, and neighbourhoods rising westward onto the edge of the Aljarafe plateau.
Just above the town lies the Cerro del Carambolo, where in 1958 workers found the Carambolo Treasure, a hoard of gold jewellery associated with the ancient Tartessian culture. The Roman city of Italica is also nearby, in neighbouring Santiponce, making this stretch of the riverbank unusually rich in archaeology.
