Cisterna di Latina Map Poster & Print
Cisterna di Latina sits at the northern edge of the Pontine plain in Lazio, where the flat, reclaimed land meets the foothills of the Monti Lepini. On a map the historic centre forms a compact, irregular core, while the surrounding countryside is cut by long, straight roads and drainage channels laid out when the marshes were reclaimed in the twentieth century.
The Palazzo Caetani stands in the old town, a reminder of the noble family that held these lands for centuries. Within the municipality's boundaries lies the Garden of Ninfa, famous for its gardens planted among medieval ruins beside a spring-fed stream.
The town was heavily damaged in 1944 during the fighting that followed the Anzio landings. A Cisterna di Latina map poster sets the old centre against the geometric grid of the plain, two very different eras on one sheet.
