Göksun sits high in the interior of Kahramanmaraş province, on an upland basin well above the lowland plains to the south. From above, the town reads as a tight cluster of streets surrounded by broad, lightly marked terrain: fields, pasture and the long folds of the surrounding mountains. The town takes its name from the Göksu, a stream that runs through the district and feeds into the wider river systems of southern Turkey.
