Guojia Map Poster & Print
Guojia is in south-eastern Gansu, in the loess hill country that covers much of this part of north-western China. On a map the town follows a valley floor, with its streets arranged along the main road and a stream, while the land on either side rises into hills cut by gullies. The built area is compact, limited by the shape of the valley around it.
The loess plateau is shaped by wind-blown soil that erodes easily, so the hills here are carved into ridges and ravines. For generations farmers have terraced the slopes, and those terraces give the landscape a layered look from above. Roads snake along the valleys to link small towns like Guojia with larger centres nearby.
A Guojia map poster shows a town set firmly into its terrain: a narrow band of streets in the valley, winding roads and the open, eroded hills around them. It is a quiet, spare print with a lot of character, and it means most to people who grew up in the loess country of Gansu.

Loess ravines
Gullies and ridges carved by erosion surround the town, giving the map's edges a branching, almost tree-like pattern.
Winding roads
Roads follow the valleys in and out of town, curving with the terrain instead of running straight.
