Colonial grid

Huamantla Map Poster & Print
Huamantla lies in the eastern part of the Mexican state of Tlaxcala, on a high plain at the foot of La Malinche, one of the country's great volcanoes. It is a designated Pueblo Mágico. The town is best known for its August festival, when residents lay out long carpets of coloured sawdust and flowers along the streets overnight.
The centre follows a classic colonial grid, with straight streets meeting at right angles around a main square, a parish church and the former Franciscan convent. Beyond the core, the grid continues across the level ground before breaking into agricultural plots and roads heading towards Puebla, Tlaxcala and the Veracruz highlands.
A Huamantla map poster suits the town well, since the regular streets that host the flower carpets every year are exactly the ones the map shows. In black and white, the orderly grid reads clearly. With the volcano's slopes beyond the edges, it is an evocative piece for anyone from Tlaxcala.

Festival streets
The same straight streets are covered with carpets of flowers and coloured sawdust during the August celebrations, which makes the grid the stage of the town's best-known tradition.
Malinche foothills
La Malinche rises to the west. Towards the map's edges, the flat highland plain gives way to farmland and the first gentle slopes of the volcano.
