Mpigi Map Poster
Mpigi is the administrative centre of Mpigi District in Uganda's Central Region, a short drive southwest of Kampala. It lies on the main highway toward Masaka and the southwest, and from above the town is shaped mostly by that road. Buildings and side streets line the route, while the land beyond breaks into low hills, farmland and the swampy valleys typical of this part of Buganda.
The district is known for its crafts, including traditional drums made in workshops along the highway. It also has forest reserves that protect patches of the tropical forest that once covered much of the region. The town itself is modest and practical, a place of markets, schools and district offices that serve the surrounding villages.
