Ngūr is a town in Mizoram, the hill state in India's far northeast that borders Myanmar and Bangladesh. The landscape here is made of long parallel ridges running roughly north to south, separated by steep valleys, and that terrain determines every line on the map. Settlements in Mizoram traditionally occupy the ridgetops, so houses and streets gather along the high ground rather than in the valleys below.
Seen from above, this produces a very particular drawing. Roads bend back and forth in switchbacks as they climb, then follow the crest in long, sinuous lines. Side lanes drop steeply off the main road, and buildings step down the slopes in narrow terraces. Much of the surrounding land is forest or cultivated hillside, leaving large open areas where the map is almost blank.
