Rukatunturi is a fell in Kuusamo, in north-eastern Finland near the Russian border. On a map it rises above a landscape of lakes, forest and wetland. Ruka opens the Nordic skiing season every November with World Cup cross-country, ski jumping and Nordic combined events, and the ski jumps stand on the fell itself. Nearby is Oulanka National Park and the well-known Karhunkierros hiking trail, which make the area as popular in summer and autumn as it is in winter.
