Evaporation ponds
Large rectangular salt pans cover the former southern basin of the Dead Sea. Their long, straight dykes form one of the most geometric patterns in the region and fill the western side of the map.

D'Kaart
Safi, also known as Ghor as-Safi, lies on the flat plain at the southeastern end of the Dead Sea. This stretch of the Jordan Rift Valley is several hundred metres below sea level. From above, the town is a compact cluster of low blocks set among farmland, and the bare slopes of the plateau rise sharply to the east. Almost every line on the map runs across the valley floor.
The most striking shapes here are made by water rather than streets. North and west of town, the evaporation ponds of the potash industry divide the old southern basin of the Dead Sea into large, straight-edged pools. They are drawn so regularly that they look almost architectural. Between them and the town, irrigation channels and field boundaries turn the valley floor into a fine grid of plots.
The area is often associated with biblical Zoar, and the Museum at the Lowest Place on Earth stands nearby, close to the site traditionally known as Lot's Cave. A Safi map poster reduces this landscape to line and space: the rift wall, the farm plots and the geometric pans. It reads as clearly in black and white as it does on the ground.
Large rectangular salt pans cover the former southern basin of the Dead Sea. Their long, straight dykes form one of the most geometric patterns in the region and fill the western side of the map.
East of town the land climbs steeply toward the plateau. On the poster the change is abrupt, with dense field lines on the valley floor giving way to almost empty terrain as the slopes rise.
Fields fed by channels and wadis surround the town and give the valley floor a finely divided texture of plots and tracks. The small built-up centre sits in the middle of it.

Firwat Safi
For people from the Ghor, or anyone who has driven the Dead Sea road south, this map shows a place that looks like nowhere else: a town at the bottom of the rift, bordered by salt and stone. It suits a hallway or study where a quiet, graphic image works best.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example to add a family name or a date that matters. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files cost $9 and cover six print sizes, or you can order a printed poster.
