Hillside streets
Streets wind and switch back across the slope, so the grid breaks into irregular shapes. They show clearly how the neighbourhood was fitted onto difficult terrain.

Santutxu Map Poster & Print
Santutxu is a neighbourhood of Bilbao in the Begoña district, on the slopes that rise east of the Casco Viejo. It is one of the most densely built parts of the city. On a map it reads as a tight cluster of apartment blocks and streets crowded onto uneven ground, and the pattern bends and steps to cope with the slope.
Much of the neighbourhood grew quickly in the mid-twentieth century, when Bilbao's industry drew workers from across Spain, and the density of that period is still clear from above. Today it has its own metro station and sits a short way uphill from the Nervión, the river that runs through the heart of Bilbao.
A Santutxu map poster is for people who know Bilbao from the inside, not from Guggenheim postcards. It works as a close neighbourhood view, where the texture of the blocks is the main subject. It also works as a wider frame that takes in the old town and the river below. Either way, it is unmistakably local.

Dense blocks
Tightly packed residential blocks fill almost every available plot. The result is a very intricate texture compared with Bilbao's flatter districts along the river.
Above the Casco Viejo
Bilbao's old town and the Nervión lie just downhill. A wider frame captures the climb from the historic streets up into the neighbourhood.

Firwat Santutxu
Eng Kaart, déi eppes bedeit
Neighbourhoods like Santutxu inspire strong loyalty, and a map is a good way to show it. People hang it to remember the street where they grew up, the climb home from the metro or the first flat they rented in Bilbao.
Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the name of your street. HD files cost $9 for six sizes, or you can order a matte print, with or without a wooden frame.
