Shuanglu is a town in western Chongqing, in the hilly eastern part of the Sichuan Basin. The terrain here is a series of low ridges and shallow valleys, and settlements follow it closely. From above, the town is a cluster of streets arranged along roads that curve with the landscape. Newer blocks occupy the flatter ground, and older lanes sit near the centre.
The countryside around Shuanglu is a mosaic typical of the region. Terraced fields step up the slopes, small ponds and reservoirs fill the hollows, and narrow roads link scattered farmhouses.
