Srikalahasti lies on the banks of the Swarnamukhi River in southern Andhra Pradesh, not far from Tirupati. The town is centred on the Srikalahasteeswara Temple, one of the great Shiva shrines of South India, and the older streets are arranged around its walled precinct.
