Zushi faces Sagami Bay on the western side of the Miura Peninsula, between Kamakura and Hayama. The town fills a short strip of lowland behind a gently curved beach, and the Tagoe River runs through it down to the sea. Since the late nineteenth century Zushi has been a seaside retreat for people from Tokyo and Yokohama. Today it is a commuter town with a strong beach culture. From above the contrast is striking.
