Bétera lies in the Camp de Túria, north-west of Valencia, on the edge of the coastal plain where irrigated orchards begin to give way to low, dry hills. On a map the old town is a small, dense cluster of narrow streets, while around it spread large residential estates with winding roads and generous plots, set among a patchwork of citrus groves.
At the centre stands the castle of Bétera, of Islamic origin and later rebuilt, which still gives focus to the old quarter. The town is the terminus of a Metrovalencia line, whose track leads through farmland toward the city, and the foothills of the Serra Calderona rise to the north, drawing the edge of the built-up area into the slopes.
