Compound lanes
Narrow, irregular lanes wind between household compounds, forming a close, organic pattern at the centre of the map rather than a planned street grid.

Chakwama Map Poster & Print
Chakwama lies in Jigawa State in northern Nigeria, a region of broad, level savanna where settlements are linked by long roads and footpaths across open country. On a map, the land offers few natural barriers, so the pattern of lanes and compounds spreads freely, shaped mainly by paths between homes, farms and neighbouring communities.
The built area is made up of closely set household compounds and narrow lanes rather than wide avenues. Roads leading out of the settlement connect it to farmland and to other towns in the state, and in the dry landscape these routes show up as clear, thin lines running across large areas of cultivated and open ground.
A Chakwama map poster shows a place defined by its relationship with the land around it. The dense core, the paths radiating from it and the wide, quiet space of the savanna make a simple composition. Printed in monochrome, it feels spare and honest, much like the landscape it depicts.

Radiating tracks
Roads and footpaths lead out across the plain towards farms and neighbouring settlements, drawn as long, thin lines reaching to the edges of the frame.
Open savanna
Wide areas of flat, open land surround the settlement, giving the poster generous empty space that makes the central pattern stand out clearly.
