Southern bays
Several deep inlets cut into the side facing Crete. They create a comb-like coastline that contrasts sharply with the straighter northern shore.

Dia Map Poster & Print
Dia lies in the Sea of Crete a short distance north of Heraklion and is clearly visible from the city's waterfront. From above it is an elongated, rocky island running east to west. The northern shore is smooth, while the southern coast is cut into several deep bays. There are no roads or towns, and the interior is bare, sun-baked hillside.
The southern bays have offered sheltered anchorage since antiquity, and underwater surveys have found traces of ancient harbour use there. Today the island is uninhabited and protected as a wildlife refuge. It is especially important for the kri-kri, the Cretan wild goat, which was introduced here to help protect the species.
For people in Heraklion, Dia is part of the everyday view, a long, low silhouette on the horizon. A Dia map poster turns that silhouette into a detailed outline, with the ragged southern bays and the open sea between the island and the Cretan coast. In summer, boats take visitors out to its shores.

Wild goat refuge
The island is a protected area where the kri-kri, Crete's wild goat, lives with no roads or settlement nearby, so the map remains almost untouched by human lines.
Sea of Crete
The island sits alone in open water north of Heraklion. Its long east-west profile makes a clean horizontal shape within the frame.

It suits anyone who grew up in Heraklion or has looked out at Dia from the harbour walls. The print is spare and horizontal, and it makes a subtle companion to a map of the city itself.
