Kasama sits in the hills of inland Ibaraki, and its map shows a town fitted to its terrain. The centre gathers around Kasama Inari Shrine, counted among the three great Inari shrines of Japan, with streets leading to its gates. The town is known for Kasama ware, a pottery tradition dating back to the Edo period, and kilns and studios are spread across the surrounding hills. The Kasama Geijutsu no Mori park brings together craft and open space in a large green area. In autumn, the shrine hosts a chrysanthemum festival that draws visitors from across the region.
