Valley-floor layout
The town stretches along the bottom of the valley in a long, narrow form. It is a shape set by the mountains rather than by planning.

Longlin Map Poster & Print
Longlin lies in the mountainous south of Gansu province, a region of steep ridges, deep valleys and rivers running between them. In this terrain, settlements take on long, narrow shapes. Longlin's streets follow the valley floor, and the slopes above leave little room for the town to widen.
The surrounding countryside is rural, with villages and farmland placed wherever the land allows. Roads follow the rivers and valleys and link the town to other settlements in the region. From above, these routes appear as winding threads through largely empty mountain space.
A Longlin map poster reflects that setting. A slender band of streets runs along the valley, roads twist away through the surrounding hills, and wide blank areas stand in for mountainsides. The result is a spare, elongated composition shaped entirely by the terrain.

Mountain roads
Roads leave the town along rivers and over passes. They draw sinuous lines across the map through otherwise open terrain.
Empty ridgelines
The steep slopes around the town remain largely unbuilt, leaving broad white space that emphasises the slender settlement at the centre.
