Makutano Map Poster & Print
Makutano lies in West Pokot County in western Kenya, close to Kapenguria. Its name comes from the Swahili word for meeting point or junction, which describes the town's shape on a map: roads converge here, and the settlement spreads out from where they cross. From above, the centre is a tight cluster of streets, with houses thinning out along the approaches.
The town sits in hilly country on the route between Kitale and the north toward Lodwar and Turkana, which makes it a stopping point for travel and trade. Around it, the terrain is uneven, with farms, scattered homesteads and tracks following the slope of the land.
A Makutano map poster is essentially a portrait of a crossroads. The converging roads give the composition a natural centre, and the loose rural pattern around them fills the rest of the frame. In monochrome, the image is simple and direct, suited to someone who knows the town and its place on the northern route.

Northern route
The road north toward Turkana passes through, a long line that shows the town's role as a link between the highlands and the drylands.
Hillside homesteads
Beyond the centre, scattered homesteads and tracks follow the uneven terrain, forming a light, open texture around the town.
