Murādnagar is in Ghaziabad district in western Uttar Pradesh, between Delhi and Meerut. Two lines shape the map. One is the Upper Ganga Canal, a long engineered waterway from the nineteenth century that runs through the town. The other is the main road toward Meerut. The older town has dense, irregular lanes, while newer areas spread out along the main routes.
The canal is more than a local feature. Water drawn from it helps supply parts of Delhi, which makes this a small town with a large role. Murādnagar is also known for its ordnance factory, a large planned complex whose regular layout contrasts with the older settlement.
