Puning sits in the east of Guangdong province, in the Chaoshan region, and on a map it reads as a compact urban core surrounded by a looser web of towns, villages and field boundaries. Streets thicken where commerce concentrates, then thin into lanes that follow the flat ground of the coastal plain. Low hills rise at the edges, where the drawing loses its lines almost entirely.

The city is administered as part of Jieyang prefecture and is widely known for its textile and garment trade, with large wholesale markets that draw buyers from across southern China. That commercial character shows from above as long, repetitive blocks and tight market streets, a pattern that sits beside the older, more irregular village cores scattered through the surrounding countryside.

A Puning map poster keeps that contrast in black and white: the regular spine of newer roads, the scatter of settlements and the pale gaps where fields lie between them. Without colour, the eye follows the balance between planned and grown streets, which becomes the real subject of the drawing rather than any single landmark or monument.
