The Krishna River is the first thing you see on a map of Rabkavi. The river is wide in this part of Bagalkot district, and the town sits along its bank. The streets of the old quarter lie close to the water in an irregular, closely packed pattern. Newer roads run inland across flatter ground toward Banhatti, the town that forms the other half of the Rabkavi-Banhatti municipality.
Rabkavi has long been known for handloom weaving. The town's name is linked to the saris and cotton fabrics made on looms in homes and small workshops. The weaving quarter
