Yamashita lies in Kōchi Prefecture on the island of Shikoku, in the lowland that opens onto Tosa Bay and the Pacific. On a map, this area is a patchwork of fields and housing, with narrow lanes weaving between plots and small rivers and irrigation channels running toward the coast.
