Ridge-top old town
The historic centre follows the line of the ridge, its narrow lanes stacked in tight bands. Seen from above it looks like a dense spine of streets set against the open land below.

Agrigento Map Poster & Print
Agrigento sits high on a ridge on Sicily's southern coast. From above, the medieval core reads as a tight knot of stepped lanes and switchback streets pressed against the crest. Below it the land opens into a broad, gently falling valley. Roads fan out toward the coast a few kilometres away, and newer quarters spill down the slopes in long, curving terraces that follow the contours.
The city began as the Greek colony of Akragas, and its greatest monuments are not in the old town at all. They stand in the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Doric temples line a low ridge between the city and the sea. The Temple of Concordia there is one of the best-preserved Greek temples anywhere. The writer Luigi Pirandello was born just outside the city.
On an Agrigento map poster the contrast carries the design. Dense, irregular lines gather along the upper ridge, while the valley below is left open, crossed only by a few roads and the faint outline of the ancient sites. The coastline runs along the lower edge, so the print shows the whole climb from shore to hilltop in one frame.

Valley of the Temples
South of the city, a low ridge carries the remains of Greek Akragas. On the map it is a wide, lightly drawn zone between the modern town and the coast.
Road to the sea
Winding roads drop from the hill to the southern shore, looping back on themselves as they descend. They tie the upper town, the archaeological park and the coast together.

People hang Agrigento for a Sicilian summer, a family link to the island, or simply because the plan is unusual: a city that grew on a ridge and left its oldest monuments in the valley below. The layout reads well on a wall even from across a room.
