Arucas sits on the northern slopes of Gran Canaria, a few kilometres inland from the Atlantic coast. Its compact historic centre has narrow streets packed around a central church, and the town is overlooked by the Montaña de Arucas, a volcanic cone whose summit gives wide views to the sea.
