Avon is a town in Hendricks County, Indiana, on the western edge of the Indianapolis area. As across much of the Midwest, the land was surveyed into a square grid of section-line roads. On a map those long straight lines still frame everything, running north to south and east to west at regular intervals across former farmland.
Within that frame, most of Avon's growth has taken the form of residential subdivisions, each with its own pattern of looping streets, courts and cul-de-sacs.
