Avon lies in northern Ohio, just south of Lake Erie and west of Cleveland. On a map it shows how Midwestern suburbs grow on top of a farm grid. Long, straight section-line roads mark out large squares. Inside them, curving subdivisions, cul-de-sacs and shopping centres have filled in the former fields.
