Balāţah lies on the eastern side of Nablus, in the valley that runs between Mount Gerizim to the south and Mount Ebal to the north. On a map it stands out immediately for its density: blocks are small, streets are narrow, and alleys cut through the fabric in fine lines. The name covers both the old village of Balata and the refugee camp established beside it in 1950, which is among the largest in the West Bank.
