Blansko stretches along the valley of the Svitava river north of Brno. From above, the town is long and narrow. The river, the railway and the main road run side by side through the valley floor, and neighbourhoods climb the slopes on either side wherever the terrain allows.
Just to the east, the forested plateau of the Moravian Karst begins. It is a protected landscape of caves, gorges and sinkholes, including the Macocha Abyss, and Blansko is the usual gateway to it.
