From above, Cuyahoga Falls is organised around its river. The Cuyahoga comes through the city in a deep, wooded gorge, and the streets follow its curves instead of crossing it in a straight line. Bridges mark the few places where the two banks meet. Around the gorge, neighbourhoods spread out in a loose residential grid that runs south into Akron without any clear edge.
The falls that gave the city its name are rapids and drops over exposed rock, and the old downtown grew up next to them.
