Dīdwāna lies in the semi-arid country of central Rajasthan, on the eastern fringe of the Thar. Its best-known feature is the salt lake next to the town, a flat, pale basin that has been worked for salt for generations. On a map the lake reads as a large empty shape, and the town sits compactly beside it.
The old core is a knot of narrow, irregular lanes, typical of Rajasthani market towns that grew without a planned grid.
