Empoli Map Poster & Print
Empoli lies in the lower Arno valley in Tuscany, roughly midway between Florence and Pisa. The river runs along the northern edge of the town, and the historic centre sits just to its south, a compact grid of streets that once lay within medieval walls. Beyond it, newer neighbourhoods spread across the flat valley floor.
At the heart of the old town is Piazza Farinata degli Uberti, named after the Ghibelline leader who, according to tradition, argued at a council held in Empoli in 1260 against destroying Florence. The square is faced by the Romanesque Collegiata di Sant'Andrea with its striped marble façade. The town was also known for its production of green glass.
An Empoli map poster shows a small, clearly bounded historic core, the broad curve of the Arno and the railway running between them and the newer districts. The combination of river, old grid and surrounding plain makes an elegant, well-proportioned composition.

The central square, faced by the Collegiata di Sant'Andrea, is an open space at the heart of the old grid, visible as a clear void among the blocks.
