Gadani is a coastal town in Balochistan, on the Arabian Sea a short distance west of Karachi. From above, the coast is the defining feature: a long, gently curving shoreline of sand, with the town's streets gathered inland and arid, open land stretching away behind them. The street pattern is simple, with a few main roads and loosely arranged blocks.
Gadani is known worldwide for its ship-breaking yard, one of the largest in the world, where decommissioned vessels are beached and taken apart along the shore.
