Harewood lies within the city of Nanaimo, on the east coast of Vancouver Island. It began as a separate community tied to the coal mines that shaped the region in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and was later absorbed into the growing city. On the map it reads as a residential district rather than a town centre, with streets spreading across ground that climbs gently away from the harbour.
The pattern is a mix. Older sections keep a loose grid inherited from early lots, while later subdivisions bend into crescents and cul-de-sacs that follow the terrain.
