St. Bartholomä
A small peninsula on the western shore holds the pilgrimage church, reachable only by boat or on foot, and forms the clearest mark along the lake.

Königssee Map Poster & Print
Königssee lies in Berchtesgaden National Park in the far southeast of Bavaria, close to the Austrian border. It is long and very narrow, running roughly north to south between steep mountain walls, which gives it the feel of a fjord. The village of Schönau am Königssee sits at its northern end, where the boats depart.
Passenger boats on the lake are electric, and on the crossing the boatman traditionally plays a trumpet to demonstrate the echo off the rock walls. Halfway down the western shore, on a small peninsula, stands the pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä with its red onion domes. Beyond the southern end lies the smaller Obersee.
A Königssee map poster captures that slender, almost linear shape with few lines around it, since the steep slopes leave little room for roads. The lake reads as a single stroke of water through the mountains, with the St. Bartholomä peninsula as its one distinct mark.

The Obersee
Beyond the southern end of Königssee lies a second, smaller lake, separated by a short stretch of land and reached by a short walk.
Steep, roadless shores
Mountain walls rise directly from the water, so the map shows almost no roads along the lake, just a clean narrow strip between slopes.

Many visitors remember the echo, the boat ride and the church on the peninsula. A map of Königssee brings that Alpine calm to a wall and suits a tall frame well, following the lake's length.
