Longsha is a town in the north-east of Chongqing municipality, in the steep, deeply folded country of the upper Yangtze basin. Flat land is scarce here, so the map of a settlement like this is shaped as much by terrain as by planning. Roads follow contours, buildings gather where the ground allows, and the built-up area stretches out instead of spreading evenly.
From above, Longsha shows a compact core of closely packed blocks, with roads leaving it along valley floors and hillsides. Around it the drawing thins into winding lanes and scattered buildings.
