Lugazi lies in Uganda's Buikwe District, on the main road between Kampala and Jinja. From above, the town stretches along that highway, with a commercial strip on either side and residential lanes branching off into the hills. Its shape is linear and informal, with streets following the land rather than a fixed plan.
Around the town, the surroundings define the map. Large areas of sugarcane form broad regular fields, part of a sugar estate that has been central to Lugazi's economy for generations.
