Mabubas lies in Bengo Province in northwestern Angola, not far from the provincial capital Caxito and within reach of Luanda. It sits on the Dande River, and on a map the river is the organising line. The name is best known for the Mabubas hydroelectric dam on the Dande, built in the colonial period to supply power to the Luanda region.
