Mafeteng is the capital of Mafeteng District in western Lesotho, located in the country's lowlands, not far from the border with South Africa. The term lowlands is relative here: Lesotho is the only country lying entirely above 1,000 metres, and even its lowest point is higher than that of any other country.
On the map, Mafeteng appears as a town spread across gently rolling ground, with its streets arranged around the main road that runs through it toward the border and toward Maseru.
