Vänern shoreline
The lake's indented eastern coast, with small bays, headlands and islets, gives the town a richly detailed edge that runs the full height of the poster.

Mariestad Map Poster & Print
Mariestad sits on the eastern shore of Lake Vänern, Sweden's largest lake, where the river Tidan flows into it. Duke Charles, later King Charles IX, founded the town in 1583 and named it after his wife, Maria of the Palatinate. For a long time it was the residence of the governor of Skaraborg county, and its cathedral still stands on the skyline.
The map is dominated by water. The irregular Vänern shoreline, with its inlets, points and small islands, forms the town's western edge. The Tidan cuts through the centre on its way to the lake. Around the river mouth, the older quarter keeps a close grain of small blocks, where low wooden houses line narrow streets.
A Mariestad map poster sets these pieces in balance: the dense historic core, the river, the newer residential areas spreading inland, and the lake opening out as a wide pale field. In monochrome, the broken coastline becomes the most striking element, a detailed edge against open water.

Tidan river mouth
The river Tidan cuts through the town and empties into Vänern. The historic centre grew up around this meeting of river and lake.
Old wooden quarter
The historic core near the water keeps small, tight blocks of traditional wooden houses. Their fine-grained street pattern contrasts with the larger plots further inland.

Mariestad suits anyone who has spent summers by Vänern, sailed out of its harbour or grown up in the old Skaraborg region. The lake gives the map a calm, open side that works well in bright or minimal rooms.
You can set your own title and subtitle, and add a date to the coordinates line, whether it's a wedding by the lake or a first home in town. Pick from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
