Masasi lies inland in the Mtwara Region of southern Tanzania. It sits in a landscape known for rounded granite hills that rise straight out of the plain. The town has no rigid plan. The surrounding district is one of the main cashew-growing areas in the country, and the harvest shapes the town's rhythm.
