Metallostroy is a settlement within the Kolpinsky District of St Petersburg, on the city's south-eastern fringe. From above it looks like many Soviet-era industrial suburbs: large rectangular housing blocks set back from wide roads, green courtyards between buildings, and extensive industrial land with rail sidings next to them. The Neva flows a short distance to the north.
The settlement developed around industry in the twentieth century, and its name, which refers to metal construction, reflects that origin.
