Meudon is a town in Hauts-de-Seine, southwest of Paris, set on the hills above a bend of the Seine. Its map is layered: along the river lies the lower district of Bas-Meudon, and from there streets climb the slopes toward Meudon-sur-Seine, the town centre and the plateau above. To the south and west, the large Forêt de Meudon covers much of the land.
On the heights, the Terrasse de Meudon is a long, straight platform overlooking Paris, a remnant of the former royal château. The site now holds the Meudon observatory, part of the Paris Observatory, whose large dome is a landmark of the hillside.
