Mithi is the headquarters of Tharparkar district in Sindh, in the Thar Desert of southeastern Pakistan. On a map the town appears as a compact cluster of streets surrounded by open, sandy country. Gadi Bhit, a small hill on the edge of town, looks out across Mithi and the desert beyond and is a popular place to watch the sun set over the dunes. After the monsoon rains, the surrounding sand briefly turns green with grass and crops.
