Niort Map Poster & Print
Niort is the prefecture of the Deux-Sèvres department in western France. It lies on the Sèvre Niortaise, which winds through the town and gives the map its main curve. The old centre climbs the slopes above the river, with irregular medieval streets, while boulevards and later neighbourhoods spread outward in a looser pattern.
The town's best-known monument is its donjon, a medieval twin-towered keep beside the river. Niort is also known as the base of several major French mutual insurance companies. Downstream, the Sèvre Niortaise flows into the Marais Poitevin, a large wetland of canals and water meadows often called Green Venice.
A Niort map poster traces the river as a soft, meandering line with the dense old town gathered on its bank. The boulevards form wider arcs around it. It is an elegant, unhurried image, well suited to a town where water, stone and greenery all play a part and the countryside is never far from the streets.

Riverside keep
The medieval donjon stands close to the water, at the edge of the old centre. It marks the place where the town first took shape.
Old town streets
Above the river, narrow and irregular streets climb the slope. Their dense pattern contrasts with the broader avenues of later expansion.
