Shigang is in the far northeast of Chongqing Municipality, in the mountains that frame the Three Gorges stretch of the Yangtze. From above, the terrain is dramatic. Ridges are tightly packed, valleys are deep and narrow, and there's very little flat ground. The town sits on whatever level land the valley offers, and the rest of the map is mostly slope.
