Supía lies in north-western Caldas, in the mountainous coffee-growing country of Colombia's Andes. The town covers a valley floor and the slopes above it, so its streets have to follow the terrain. A grid around the main square gives way quickly to roads that bend along the hillsides and climb toward outlying farms.
Supía is known across Colombia for its colaciones, a traditional sweet made in the town and celebrated at an annual festival. The municipality is also home to long-established indigenous communities.
