Surif sits in the hills north-west of Hebron in the southern West Bank. The terrain here is steep and broken, and on a map the town appears as a spread of streets following the contours of the slopes, with houses stepping up and down the hillsides rather than filling a flat plan. Roads curl around ridges and drop into the dips between them.
The surrounding countryside is dominated by terraced farmland, much of it planted with olive trees, a pattern common across the Hebron hills.
