The central plaza
All the streets trace back to one open square near the middle of town, the traditional colonial heart where the main church faces the grid on all sides.

Tecax Map Poster & Print
Tecax sits in southern Yucatán, where the flat limestone plain ends at a line of low hills. From above, the town is a patient checkerboard. Numbered streets run in straight lines outward from a central square, and the blocks keep their near-square proportions until they break up into scrubland and field tracks.
The town's shape comes from its setting. On a peninsula with almost no surface rivers, there are no waterways to bend the streets. The grid simply runs until it meets the rise of the hills, and a small chapel on one of those slopes looks back over the rooftops. Roads leave the town in several directions and tie it to neighbouring towns across the plain.
A Tecax map poster works well in monochrome. Regular blocks, a single plaza and the change from ordered streets to open countryside become a quiet pattern, and the hills along the edge give the composition its one irregular line.

Hillside chapel
South of the centre the land begins to rise, and a chapel on the slope overlooks the town. It is one of the few places where the street pattern gives way to terrain.
Grid into scrubland
At the edges the regular blocks thin out into irregular plots and tracks. The map shows clearly where the planned town ends and the Yucatán countryside begins.

For anyone from Tecax, the map shows the town as it is lived. You walk the numbered streets to the plaza and see the hills from almost every corner. It makes a calm, graphic piece for a home far from Yucatán or for a room in the town itself.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or an important date. Choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. It comes as a $9 set of HD files or as a printed poster.
