River Ebro
The wide river runs through the city in a long curve, dividing its districts. Several bridges span it, and it gives the map a strong, flowing line.

Tortosa Map Poster & Print
Tortosa is built around the Ebro, the river that shapes its whole map. The historic centre lies on the left bank, packed tightly beneath the hill of the Castell de la Suda. Newer districts extend along the water and across to the opposite bank. Bridges tie the two sides together, and the river's broad curve gives the plan its main line.
The Suda, a castle of Moorish origin that now houses a parador, looks down on the Gothic cathedral and the Renaissance Royal Colleges, all within a short walk. Around them the medieval street pattern survives as a knot of narrow, irregular lanes. It is clearly different from the straighter avenues of the nineteenth- and twentieth-century extensions.
Downstream, the Ebro flows on toward its delta, one of the largest wetlands in the western Mediterranean, while the mountains of Els Ports rise to the west. A Tortosa map poster sets the old town, the river and its bridges in one frame. It suits a city that has stood at this river crossing for many centuries.

Castell de la Suda
The castle hill above the old town is a compact, raised shape. Its fortress walls and access roads stand out against the dense streets below.
Medieval core
Around the cathedral and the Royal Colleges, narrow lanes follow irregular lines. This tight historic pattern contrasts with the more regular later extensions.
